Spring Is Here!

Nature Photography Seminar

Well, maybe not yet. But, it is never too late to start planning your spring pictures. On March 12, Bob Grzesiak and Mark Carlson will be in the Adray Classroom showing you the techniques you must know to be successful in your spring pictures with their 2008 Nature Photography Seminar.

Mark and Bob are both Naturalists with a great deal of photography experience. They currently operate Great Lakes Photo Tours where they share their extensive knowledge in Mother Nature's classroom. Not everyone can sneak away for a week or even a weekend to take a tour, so we thought we would bring them to the Adray Classroom. This class will be similar to the one offered last year, which was a huge success. Come JOIN US for the fun and see the results in your pictures all year long!

What's that Lens Hood For?

Some of you have many of these plastic rings and you never use them. What the heck are they good for anyway? They're big, bulky and get in the way. However, these simple little devices can make the difference in getting a great shot and having a picture plagued with lens flare.

Lens hoods, especially the ones engineered for a specific lens, block stray light that is not necessary for your picture. Light can enter the lens and bounce around inside the optics and show up on your image as ghosting or flare. Using your lens hood can eliminate or greatly reduce these negative effects on your pictures, and often produce sharper images in general. The sun is often the culprit when it comes to lens flare. The general rule is to always use your lens hood when you're shooting outdoors. You may also want to use your lens hood whenever you have a strong light source.

If you'd like to learn more, Wikipedia has a great article on Lens flare. Click HERE to see the article. If you're convinced and realize now is the time to pick up your lens hood, click HERE to check out the lens hoods available at Adray Camera. .

His interest in photography was fostered by a trip to Yosemite National Park at age 14 with his trusty Kodak Brownie Camera.

Did You Know?

EXIF, or Exchangeable Image File Format, is an often misunderstood term. It was created by the Japanese Electronics Industries Development Association. EXIF files are usually embedded into a digital image file such as a jpeg, and contains information about the image like shutter speed, aperture, camera settings, etc.... EXIF is the modern day equivalent to jotting down image information on the back of a picture, or purchasing an expensive data back for a film camera.
